Hate crime can affect anyone, anywhere and anyhow.  Young people are no exception and are regularly  targeted because of who they are or who they are perceived to be.  During talks at schools and colleges our project coordinator asked has anyone ever witness someone being bullied because of their race, religion, disability, gender or sexual orientation and almost all the time every student will raise their hand.  We know that hate crime is underreported but  this could suggest that a lot more hate incidents and crimes are taking place in schools, colleges, youth groups that are being undetected.  Hate crime wears down the confidence and self esteem of young people and can have huge impacts on their lives as well as having a devastating effect on their community.

This is why we are delivering two hate crime awareness training sessions open to anyone but mainly aimed towards youth workers.
